Because He First Loved Us

We live in a world where love is often lacking. Some people really seem to have an amazing capacity for selfless love, but unfortunately most people have the most love only for themselves.

The Bible calls us to love each other. Why? Because He first loved us.

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

1 John 4:19-21 (NIV)

Call for Christians

This call is for people who claim to love God. If you say you love God, but at the same time hate your brother or sister, you are a liar. It is pure logic: You have never seen God, and yet you love Him. Then you will surely need to love others, whom you can see.

Be honest when it comes to your love for others, and your love for God.

God is Love

"God has love" is an incorrect statement. God is love. “Love is God” is also incorrect. Not all love comes from God. There is a selfish and unclean kind of love, and it can in no way be called true love. In a quest to find the answer to the question what real love is, we come to God. He has loved us first, even before we started searching for Him.

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:8 (NIV)

Loving Each Other with His Love

God is love. He has poured out this love into our hearts, described in Romans 5:5. We can love each other with that kind of love. Love flowing from ourselves will leave a great deal to be desired. When we trust that God has put His love into us, we are able to love our fellow man, whoever he or she is.
