Praising God’s Word

The Bible is just a book, just paper printed with black ink and sometimes bound in a leather cover. Christians are not inclined to worship the Bible. God's Word is not exalted or praised.

1 As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you.

2 Thessalonians 3:1 (NIV)

Rapid Spread

The evangelists Paul, Silvanus and Timothy write a letter from the place where they told people about the Good News. They asked for prayer. They would like to see God's word spreading rapidly and for the Word to be praised, just like the readers of this letter did when they heard it. Rapid spread is necessary because without hearing the Gospel, people will be lost.

The Bible requires open ears and open hearts from the people who hear it. It also calls for workers who come along to help spread the Word (see Matthew 9: 37-38). Pray for a rapid spread of the Word of God, just as Paul calls us to. And pray for the people who go out as Jesus Himself asked us to do.

The Word Praised

We know that Jesus Christ is the Living Word (see 1 John 1: 1). He is also the Word that became Man (John 1: 1) and as such the Word is to be praised. Other translations sayin 2 Thessalonians 3: 1 that the Word is honored, is followed and is obeyed.

It is important that the Gospel is spread rapidly, but it is equally important that it is followed. Only then will the Word of God bear fruit and bring people eternal life.
